Open meeting of the United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee: “Countering terrorist narratives and preventing the use of the Internet for terrorist purposes”

A number of recent Security Council resolutions have stressed the importance to counter the narratives of terrorists and to prevent the use of the Internet for terrorist purposes.?Security Council resolution 2354 (2017)?directs the Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC), with the support of its Executive Directorate (CTED), to organize at least one open meeting annually to review global developments in countering terrorist narratives.

In line with the requirement stemming from UNSCR 2354 (2017), the CTC will hold an open meeting on “Countering terrorist narratives and preventing the use of the Internet for terrorist purposes,” with the objective to assist the Committee to encourage States to better align their efforts in this area with the guidelines contained in said resolution. Taking place at?United Nations headquarters in New York on Tuesday 28 January 2020 in Conference Room 4 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, the meeting is open to Member and Observer States, members of the media including photographers with valid accreditation, United Nations staff and interns, UN entities, intergovernmental organizations, and specialized agencies, as well as invited guests with a valid UN grounds pass.
