From 19–21 November 2024, the United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) took part in a regional workshop on the “Human Rights-Compliant Approaches to Countering the Financing of Terrorism and Risk-Based Implementation of FATF Recommendation 8: Preventing terrorism-financing abuse of the non-profit organization sector in South-East Asia”, in Cebu, Philippines.

While States are increasingly introducing security enhancements to protect critical infrastructure and soft targets, terrorists continue to seek ways to explore their vulnerabilities. In addition to more traditional modalities, terrorists are using more advanced methods of attack using new technologies, such as unmanned aircraft systems, against vulnerable targets.

On Tuesday, 3 December 2024, the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) held a hybrid technical session at United Nations Headquarters in New York to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Security Council Resolution 2178 (2014). The session brought together UN experts, civil society and Member State representatives to discuss progress made in addressing Foreign Terrorist Fighters (FTFs), persistent challenges, and strategies for future collaboration.

The Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) conducted a follow-up assessment visit on behalf of the Counter-Terrorism Committee to the Republic of C?te d’Ivoire from 10 to 13 November 2024.

From 3 to 4 August 2024, the Beijing Normal University College for Criminal Law Science and School of Law, the Beijing Institute of Technology School of Law and the Renmin University of China Criminal Law Science Research Center co-organized the 11th Contemporary Criminal Law International Symposium on “Combating Financing of Terrorism and Facilitating International Counter-Terrorism Cooperation”, in close cooperation with the United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED).
