146. Financing of the United Nations Mission in the Sudan

The Security Council, by its resolution of 24 March 2005, established the United Nations Mission in the Sudan (UNMIS) for an initial period of six months and decided that UNMIS would consist of up to 10,000 military personnel and an appropriate civilian component, including up to 715 civilian police personnel. The mandate of UNMIS was extended by the Council in subsequent resolutions, the latest of which was resolution of 30 April 2008, whereby it was extended until 30 April 2009, with the intention to renew it for further periods.

At its resumed sixty-second session, in June 2008, the General Assembly decided to appropriate to the Special Account for UNMIS the amount of $858,771,200 for the period from 1 July 2008 to 30 June 2009, inclusive of $820,720,600 for the maintenance of the Mission, $33,169,900 for the support account for peacekeeping operations and $4,880,700 for the United Nations Logistics Base; also decided to apportion among Member States the amount of $715,642,666 for the period from 1 July 2008 to 30 April 2009; further decided that there should be set off against the apportionment among Member States their respective share in the Tax Equalization Fund of $18,685,833; decided to apportion among Member States the amount of $143,128,534 for the period from 1 May to 30 June 2009 at a monthly rate of $71,564,267, subject to a decision of the Security Council to extend the mandate of the Mission; also decided that there should be set off against the apportionment among Member States their respective share in the Tax Equalization Fund of $3,737,167; and further decided that the decrease of $1,662,100 in the estimated staff assessment income in respect of the financial period ended 30 June 2007 should be set off against the credits from the amount of $159,505,000 referred to in paragraphs 25 and 26 of the resolution (resolution ).
