CTED presents at the 24th regular session of the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism

 

The Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate participated in panel discussions about progress made and challenges in implementing Security Council resolutions 1267 (1999), 1373 (2001), 1988 (2011), 1989 (2011), 2253 (2015), and subsequent resolutions, with respect in particular to the provisions on terrorism financing at the 24th session of the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism of the Organization of American States in Washington D.C., USA, on 24 and 25 April 2024.

The 24th session of the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE) of the Organization of American States (OAS) under the presidency of Chile, was hosted in Washington D.C., United States of America, on 24 and 25 April 2024. The plenary was attended (either physically or virtually) by the 34 member States; members of the group, observers, or cooperating and supporting countries; and international and regional organizations, such as the Financial Action Task Force of Latin America (GAFILAT) and the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF).

The Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) participated in panel discussions about progress made and challenges in implementing Security Council resolutions 1267 (1999), 1373 (2001), 1988 (2011), 1989 (2011), 2253 (2015), and subsequent resolutions, with respect in particular to the provisions on terrorism financing. CTED also highlighted the need for robust legal frameworks, investigations, and cooperation for the criminalization of terrorism financing and targeted financial sanctions.

The session concluded with the report on CICTE’s 2023-2024 activities outlined trainings, courses, and publications that were developed in partnership with international organizations such as the International Civil Aviation Organization, the International Maritime Organization, the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, CTED and the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1540 (2004), as well as academia, among others.
