Committee members stand in observance of one minute of silence.

On 19 November 2015, the members of the Counter-Terrorism Committee rose to observe a minute of silence for victims of terrorism around the world.

Addressing the Committee’s 301st plenary meeting, the Committee Chair recalled that the world had recently witnessed a number of barbaric terrorist acts, including the attacks carried out recently in Beirut, Nigeria and Paris, as well as in Chad, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey and other regions of the world.

Committee members stand in observance of one minute of silence.

“These attacks were, for many of us, a reminder that there is much more that we should and must do in the months and years ahead in preventing and countering terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, regardless of their motivations, whenever, wherever and by whomsoever committed,” the Chair added.

Acting in accordance with the relevant Security Council resolutions, the Committee works with Member States to strengthen their ability to combat terrorism, including the foreign terrorist fighter phenomenon, and to counter and prevent violent extremism.
