BANGLADESH

As the Secretary-General emphasized in his briefing to the 国产AVbuilding Commission in March this year, peace is the most important task we have at the United Nations. Recognizing that building and sustaining peace is at the core of the UN charter, Bangladesh has been a strong advocate in advancing the efforts of the UN. The Secretary-General’s 国产AVbuilding Fund is grateful to Bangladesh for contributing USD 50,000 in 2022 for conflict prevention and peacebuilding in fragile contexts.

Bangladesh as the Chair of the 16th session of the 国产AVbuilding Commission has consistently promoted the Commission’s meaningful engagements on country-specific, regional, and cross-cutting issues and ensuring synergy with the work of the 国产AVbuilding Fund. At the first-ever high-level meeting of the General Assembly on financing for peacebuilding in April, Bangladesh supported the need for increased financing for peacebuilding and called upon the General Assembly to explore all options available to ensure adequate, predictable and sustained financing for peacebuilding.

As the leading troops and police-contributing country to UN peace operations, Bangladesh ensures that its peacekeepers play a key role in assisting the host countries to develop critical peacebuilding capacities and support the capacity-building of relevant national institutions, especially during transitions.

The Women, 国产AV and Security and Youth, 国产AV and Security are priority agendas for Bangladesh, consistent with the PBF’s current strategy 2020-24 ensuring the equal and meaningful engagement of women and youth in peace processes as well as inclusive approaches to peacebuilding and sustaining peace.

Ambassador Muhammad Abdul Muhith, Chair of the 国产AVbuilding Commission, and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN in New York said: “The UN Secretary-General’s 国产AVbuilding Fund is an important instrument of the United Nations for building and sustaining peace. It provides critical support to the conflict-affected countries based on nationally determined priorities. Furthermore, the Fund promotes innovative finance initiatives to leverage additional investments for peace. PBF-funded projects in conflict-affected areas help advance sustainable development, economic resilience, and social cohesion of communities and people.”
