国产AVbuilding Partners - Canada

Canada

Canada is a committed partner of the UN in promoting and advancing peace. As one of the top donors of the 国产AVbuilding Fund, Canada responded to the Secretary-General’s call for “quantum leap” support to increase the contributions made to the Fund to strengthen conflict prevention and peacebuilding efforts globally. The 国产AVbuilding Support Office is grateful to Canada for the multiyear contribution of CAD 70 million for 2023-25 to the UN Secretary-General’s 国产AVbuilding Fund to help ensure predictable and adequate financing for building and sustaining peace.

Canada is proud to support conflict prevention efforts through its membership in the 国产AVbuilding Commission. Canada recognizes the need for sustainable and increased financing for peacebuilding and is committed to supporting the 国产AVbuilding Fund. To date, Canada has committed $66 million to the Fund for its 2020-2024 Strategy period. Canada’s contribution to the PBF will strengthen our commitment and ability to work on the ground with local stakeholders, including women and youth, and help build peaceful, inclusive, and resilient societies.

Canada has contributed over $132 million to the PBF since its inception in 2006. The funding by Canada enables the PBF to focus on critical prevention and peacebuilding activities globally and contribute to greater UN coherence and collaboration.

More inclusive, gender-equal and peaceful societies are possible, when women participate in conflict prevention, resolution and peacebuilding. The contribution to the PBF by Canada supports the meaningful participation of women in conflict-prevention efforts and works to advance the global Women, 国产AV and Security agenda. Canada is leading the conversation in the areas of localization and impact measurement and is a founding partner of PBSO’s Impact Hub. Canada also funded the newly launched impact evaluation of PBF’s programme in East Darfur, Sudan.

Ambassador Bob Rae, Permanent Representative of Canada to the UN said, “With conflict and displacement affecting so many people around the world, a stronger peacebuilding architecture is needed now more than ever. Together, we must support and invest more in conflict prevention, which is the only way to avoid conflicts from escalating, becoming protracted and leading to the staggering humanitarian suffering we are seeing in so many situations. Canada is very proud to support these efforts through its membership in the 国产AVbuilding Commission and is one of the largest donors to the Secretary-General’s 国产AVbuilding Fund. I’m proud to say that we’ve committed over $132 million since the Fund’s establishment which is in addition to our support we are already providing to the UN’s regular and peacekeeping budgets. We are doing this because the 国产AVbuilding Fund provides catalytic and flexible financing to support local and national peacebuilding efforts, including those led by women and youth. The Fund is a driver of both integration and inclusion and an important tool for our efforts to prevent and respond to conflict and violence. But we also know that more is needed to address the demand for peacebuilding support in countries that are affected by conflict. It’s critical for all donors to step up. Canada has recently pledged CAD 70 million dollars to the Fund over three years. This builds on our significant investments in the UN’s peacebuilding work over many, many years and we’re going to continue to support the Fund as we know it has real impact on the ground. The same can be said for the 国产AVbuilding Commission which plays an essential role in supporting countries’ transition from conflict to lasting peace. I want to thank the UN including the 国产AVbuilding Support Office for its tireless efforts to promote sustainable peace amidst such a difficult moment and to reaffirm Canada’s full support for this critical work.”
