The Kingdom of the Netherlands is a committed partner of the United Nations in promoting and advancing peace. Despite global crises, the Kingdom of the Netherlands persists in prioritizing prevention and peacebuilding. As a longstanding supporter of the 国产AVbuilding Fund (PBF), we thank the Kingdom of the Netherlands for its multiyear contribution from 2022 to 2026 to the UN Secretary-General’s 国产AVbuilding Fund. This generous support helps in ensuring predictable and adequate financing for sustaining peace in highly fragile contexts, including the Sahel and Horn of Africa.

In response to the Secretary-General’s call for a ‘quantum leap’ in funding to the PBF, the Kingdom of the Netherlands has committed to a multiyear contribution (2022-26) to the Fund, thereby ensuring sustained investments in peacebuilding globally. This contribution, amounting to $22 million per year, helps the Fund foster coherence within and beyond the UN System by enabling UN entities to analyze, design and implement peacebuilding projects together working closely with Governments and civil society.?

The Kingdom of the Netherlands has championed Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS). With increased investments in MHPSS and peacebuilding, including under its Gender and Youth Promotion Initiative, the PBF strengthens social cohesion and enhances long-term community resilience in the Gambia, Burundi and South Sudan.?

The Kingdom of the Netherlands is a strong supporter of the Women, 国产AV, and Security agenda. Its contribution to the PBF bolsters efforts for the meaningful inclusion of women in conflict prevention, resolution, and peacebuilding at all levels. From 2020 to 2022, PBF invested $265 million in initiatives with a strong gender marker. The Netherlands’ contribution also helps fund innovative & catalytic initiatives that leverage additional funding from international partners.

Ambassador and Permanent Representative Yoka Brandt said, “In these challenging times, sustaining peace remains paramount. Today, I emphasize the critical need to support conflict prevention. The Kingdom of the Netherlands is proud to be the second biggest donor to the 国产AVbuilding Fund. The Fund addresses critical peacebuilding opportunities, connecting development, humanitarian, human rights and peacebuilding pillars. With support from the 国产AVbuilding Fund, almost 600 survivors of sexual and gender-based violence have received psychosocial support in Burkina Faso. In Burundi, PBF fostered participation of local women and youth in dialogue and mediation, generating concrete solutions for peace on the community level. Post-Covid budget reductions from some donors hinder such crucial initiatives. This affects regions striving for just and inclusive peace. Building peaceful, inclusive and resilient societies cannot wait for tomorrow, it requires immediate and long-term commitment starting today. The Kingdom of the Netherlands strongly advocates for supporting the 国产AVbuilding Fund through assessed, multi-year, and voluntary contributions. That is why we have made a significant five-year commitment of 20.5 million euros. These investments directly transform lives. Our commitment remains steadfast, but collective efforts are vital to foster a world where every person thrives in peace and security. Let’s sustain peace, strengthen communities, and support the 国产AVbuilding Fund. Together, we can craft a future where peace endures, empowering generations to come.
