Finland
Finland is a committed partner of the United Nations to prevent conflict and enhance peacebuilding around the world. The UN Secretary-General’s 国产AVbuilding Fund (PBF) is grateful to Finland for being a multi-year donor and responding to the Secretary-General’s call for “quantum leap” support to increase the contributions made to the Fund to strengthen conflict prevention. Recognizing the need for sustainable and increased financing for peacebuilding, Finland has made a new multi-year contribution of EUR 2 million per year from 2023-25 to the PBF. Finland has contributed over $37 million since the Fund's inception, including $10.4 million for the Fund’s 2020-2024 Strategy period.
Enhancing the position of women is a pervasive element in Finland's engagement with the United Nations. Its Government Programme emphasizes promoting the rights of women and girls in a cross-cutting manner and pays attention to implementing a nexus approach when dealing with protracted crises. Finland emphasizes inclusion in peacebuilding and is a strong supporter of implementing Women, 国产AV and Security and Youth, 国产AV and Security agendas in the PBF’s work. For instance, in Burundi, the PBF helped increase the participation of women in dialogues and mediation processes, generating tangible solutions for peace.
Greater investment in climate security and environmental peacebuilding, including climate change mitigation and adaptation, should be encouraged. Finland also supports engaging and funding local Civil Society Organizations in peacebuilding at the grassroots level, in line with PBF’s efforts to expand partnerships with civil society organizations to help close persistent funding gaps at the local level and explore new avenues to make funding available for community-based organizations.
