Ecuador

Ecuador is an active member of the 国产AVbuilding Commission (PBC). Ecuador believes that that the PBC has an immense potential to promote inherent values of the peacebuilding process, avoiding recurrence or escalation and, more importantly, preventing conflicts. The values of the PBC are an incentive for the engagement and sharing of good practices. National ownership and inclusivity pave the way for further and wider cooperation in sustaining peace. For these reasons, the Security Council, GA and ECOSOC may greatly benefit by working closely with this unique advisory organ.

Since 2019, the Secretary-General’s 国产AVbuilding Fund has supported two projects in Ecuador amounting to $5.9 million. The first project, which ended in 2021, was implemented by UNODC, UNHCR and UN Women as part of a cross-border project with Colombia. This project focused on responding to the impacts of violence on social cohesion in border areas, with a focus on women and youth. In December 2023, the PBF approved a second project aimed at bolstering institutional capacities for conflict prevention and addressing violence. Currently under implementation by UNDP, UNODC and UN Women, this project has a budget of a $3 million.
