Charlene Musiza

Photo of Dr. Charlene MusizaDr. Charlene Musiza is a lawyer, researcher and consultant. Her research interests lie at the intersection of intellectual property and development, particularly how appropriate intellectual property rights can be leveraged to benefit small-scale producers in developing countries.

She began her career in private law practice before moving to academic research over the last decade. She has published in international journals on various IPRs issues from substantive IP rights to IP dispute resolution. Her research has focused on gender, innovation, traditional knowledge and the IP system, and designing appropriate legal protection schemes.

Dr. Musiza is an alumni of the Queen Elizabeth Scholar – Advanced Scholar (QES-AS) and has consulted on developing sector specific IP policies. She has worked at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Open African Innovation Research Network (Open AIR). She has a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Zimbabwe, and a Master of Laws degree and PhD from the University of Cape Town.
