Summary
The Expert Group Meeting will bring together policymakers, experts, and practitioners to share experiences and best practices in leveraging STI through promoting STEM education and adopting appropriate IP policies to strengthen food systems in Africa. The promotion of STEM education and IP policies plays an important role in Africa’s agriculture and food industry by ensuring that the needed STEM workforce and the potential of scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs' innovations are fully realized.
In this regard, the OSAA Knowledge Network STEM and IPs experts will share their research findings, views, and perspectives on the following areas:
- STEM education as an enabler in accelerating Africa’s food systems transformation;
- the Contribution of IP to promoting agriculture and transforming food systems;
- STI for high productivity and diversification in Africa;
- and (4) STI and African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The outcome of discussions at the EGM, including analysis and policy recommendations, will feed into the UN Food Systems Stocktaking Moment, which will take place in Rome, Italy, from 24 to 26 July 2023.
