Africa Day at the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 12 July 2022, 8:30am (EST)
The annual Africa Day at the High-level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development takes place on 12 July. This year’s theme is: “Scaling up innovative financing and leveraging partnerships for the Africa We Want.”
Organized since 2018 in response to the requests by African Member States, the ministerial-level event provides an informal and interactive platform to share good practices and lessons learned among African Member States and their development partners.
As with previous editions, the 2022 Africa Day will build on the outcomes of the 8th Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development that took place in Kigali in March 2022 on the theme of “Building forward better: a green, inclusive and resilient Africa poised to achieve the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063.”
Africa Day at the HLPF is an opportunity to expand outreach on the outcomes of the ARFSD-8 and solicit practical and implementable recommendations to advance policy options, notably on innovative financing and partnerships adopted at the Regional Forum. With a view to strengthening partnerships to build back better from the COVID-19 pandemic while advancing the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) during the Decade of Action and as the First Ten Year Implementation Plan of African Union’s Agenda 2063 is drawing to a close, the Africa Day at the HLPF will also explore the themes of inclusion, resilience and domestic resource mobilization as a means to consolidate development gains and unlock the potential of the continent’s women and youth. The event is aligned with SDGs 4, 5, 14, 15 and 17 that are under review this year.
The event, which takes place on the sidelines of the 2022 HLPF, will be open to all participants, including high-level government officials from all UN Member States, as well as representatives from African regional institutions, the UN system, bilateral and multilateral partners, representatives from women and youth groups, civil society, the private sector, academia and the media.
It is co-organized by the UN Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA), African Union Commission (AUC), UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the UN Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP).
