ADS2022: Day Two

Webinar on Sub-theme 1: Building Resilient Socio-Agricultural Food Systems: The Key to Nutrition

Over the past decade, African countries have had relatively progressive economic growth performance despite the various climatic, economic and security challenges. However, the average investment rates for agriculture and agricultural innovation on the continent remain very low and insufficient to respond to the current and emerging food security and climate change challenges.  Low investment in agricultural infrastructure, value addition and market linkages suggest that Africa’s recent growth may be fragile and that it is unlikely to be sustained in the medium to long term if current trends continue. The big question remains “how can Africa trigger increased investment in agriculture? And What are the policy incentives to attract investment?”

The multiple challenges that Africa has been facing in terms of food security, fertilizer prices and energy shortages have been aggravated by ongoing conflicts within and outside the region, particularly the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Following the high-level panel, the webinar will focus on how finance can support the role of youth and women as entrepreneurs supporting resilient food systems.

This webinar is an interactive panel discussion. The panel will draw out explicit pathways on how public and private investment should be directed to build resilient food systems.

Join experts as they discuss Africa’s challenges and solutions in building resilient food systems, and consider what must be done to turn pollical ambition into reality towards reaching the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Malabo Declaration, and Agenda 2063.
