Chief Larteh
Paramount Chief Mary Larteh is an experienced female traditional leader. She was traditionally educated through the Kpelleh social institution, which is responsible for educating female members of society.
Chief Larteh grew up as a progressive female leader during her youth days. She has served as head of the Bong County Marketing Association, Bong County Women for 国产AV, and she is currently serving in the capacity of Vice Chairperson for the Bong County Council of Chiefs and Elders.
Chief Larteh was selected by the majority of male traditional leaders to serve as Paramount Chief for Jorquelleh Kpelleh Chiefdom after the death of a male paramount chief. Her selection by majority male traditional leaders to serve in a position that is customarily reserved for male members of the Kpelleh ethnic group comes from the background of her service to the public and respect for tradition and customs of the Kpelleh people during her previous positions. Chief Larteh has been serving in the capacity of Paramount Chief for 10 years. Chief Larteh has worked with her male chief counterparts to ensure inclusive and participatory local governance in Bong County. She has resolved several community-related disputes, including land disputes and low-level criminal disputes. She has also worked to improve coordination between the statutory justice system and the customary justice system to ensure access to justice and the rule of law. Chief Larteh has attended several conferences and seminars on Customary and statutory justice.
