New York, 13 December 2024 每 The Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UNOHRLLS) congratulates S?o Tom谷 and Pr赤ncipe on its graduation from the Least Developed Countries (LDC) category.
LDCs
Last month, world leaders gathered at the time of the UN General Assembly in New York and agreed on a pioneering Pact for the Future. This global accord has implications across a broad range of issues that affect every country.
On the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly, the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has signed a $10 million contribution agreement with the Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS).
The annual Ministerial Meeting of the Least Developed Countries continues to serve as an important platform for LDCs to deliberate and strategize on critical issues concerning development, economic growth, and sustainable progress.
World leaders will gather New York later this month for the United Nations General Assembly where they will reflect on the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs as they are commonly known. They will face an unsettling truth: according to the 2024 Sustainable Development Goals Report, only 17% of SDGs are on track, with 48% showing minimal or moderate progress.
The Doha Programme of Action for the LDCs (DPoA) sets forth ambitious targets and goals to achieve sustainable, resilient and transformative development for the decade 2022-2031. Effective follow-up and robust monitoring are crucial for the successful implementation of the DPoA.
