The Oxford SDG Impact Lab was founded in 2021 to empower students at the University of Oxford, a UNAI member institution, to lead transformative research projects aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Lab partners with both global industry leaders and local community organisations, providing students with unique opportunities to address pressing challenges in areas like sustainable tourism, climate action, health, and social inclusion.
In collaboration with partners including BMW Group, UN Tourism, and Rosberg Philanthropies, Lab Fellows engage in research projects at both a global and local level. Recent initiatives include the development of an ESG Framework for the tourism sector, involving on-the-ground research across key tourist regions to support conservation, community empowerment, and biodiversity protection. Students examined sustainable workforce practices, waste management, and ecosystem preservation to support UN Tourism’s goals for a more sustainable sector.
Additionally, local partnerships through initiatives like the Community Impact Lab and Sport Impact Lab help students contribute to community-driven goals within Oxfordshire. Projects have ranged from researching into equitable employment pathways for adults living in Oxfordshire, to decarbonisation of city buildings, to developing and delivering a sport & education based social impact program for more than seventy school children living in Oxford City.
