Global Launch of 2023 Edition of Flagship Report on Africa

On 13 November 2023 at 10am New York time, a hybrid global launch event will take place, of a flagship report of the United Nations Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA) titled "Solving Paradoxes of Africa's Development: Financing, Energy and Food Systems," with the participation of a panel of experts from the World Bank, the African Forum and Network on Debt and Development, and the International Fund for Agricultural Development, as well as听other guests.

The report sheds light on the interplay among three intersecting paradoxes and their impact on Africa's sustainable development, while tracing听the root of these paradoxes and puts forth solutions to address these challenges, which are crucial to improving Africa's prospects in accelerating progress toward achieving the SDGs.

2023 SDG Summit Follow-Up Event: Greening Global Citizenship Education

Aligned with the recent SDG Summit 2023, this event taking place on 13 November from 10am to 1pm New York time, co-organized by听IVECA Center for International Schooling,听CoNGO and the National Mission for听Clean Ganga of the Indian Government,听seeks to foster collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity among diverse stakeholders in accelerating global progress听toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Global Forum on Industry-UNAI Hub University Collaboration

The International Association of Universities (IAU) as a contribution to the upcoming听UNESCO World Higher Education Conference and discussion in the next听In Focus听section of the Association鈥檚 magazine,听IAU Horizons, wants to offer university perspectives on selected themes.

What needs to change to shape higher education for the future? How would you reinvent higher education? Or question the need to reinvent it? What are the key issues that policymakers must address when they discuss and reimagine higher education?听

Call for Inputs: Anniversary of the Declaration听on the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance

The Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances launched a special initiative to mark the adoption of the Declaration听on the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance,听aiming at taking stock of the progress of international law on the subject, as well as identifying the obstacles encountered in the implementation of the Declaration and the ways in which the Working Group could support States in overcoming them, including through technical assistance and cooperation.

The study will focus on the contribution of the Declaration to the progress of international and domestic law and jurisprudence, the obstacles encountered in its implementation, the relevant lessons learned, and good practices.听

Call for Inputs: Emerging Science, Frontier Technologies, and the SDGs

The UN Interagency Task Team on Science, Technology, and Innovation for the SDGs (IATT) is calling upon scientists, engineers, economists, policy analysts, and UN staff experts to contribute to the annual background report on 鈥淓merging science, frontier technologies, and the SDGs 鈥 Perspectives from UN system and science and technology communities鈥 in support of the Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology, and Innovation for the SDGs (STI Forum), to be held at UN Headquarters in New York in May 2022.

They are looking for substantive contributions in either one of the following areas on issues that you would like to bring to the attention of policymakers: (a) Lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic for the science-policy-society interface. (b) Rapidly emerging frontier technologies and emerging science issues (for the Sustainable Development Goals).

Call for Submissions: SDG Action and Awareness Week

The University Global Coalition, in partnership with the State University of New York, is organizing the SDGs Action and Awareness Week, which will take place from 28 February to 4 March 2022. Its purpose is to听promote awareness of the SDGs among students in higher education and inspire them to take action in furtherance of the goals on their campuses and in their local community.

As part of SDG Action and Awareness Week, a committee will collect submissions of events and activities from universities across the globe. These submissions will be accessible in a dedicated calendar of events, complete with links on how to participate.听
