‘The forests we want beyond 2015’

At the high-level meeting of the 11th session of the UN Forum on Forests, representatives of Member States adopted the UNFF11 Ministerial Declaration ‘The forests we want: beyond 2015’. With the acceptance of the declaration, ministers responsible for forestry, confirmed their commitment to reach a stronger and more effective International Agreement on Forests beyond 2015. They stressed that forests plays a significant role in a sustainable development programme beyond 2015 by:
- Improving the implementation of a sustainable forest management;
- Deepening the dialogue in forestry;
- Encouraging cooperation among all the organisations, conventions and other forest-related processes.

The eleventh session of the UN Forum on Forests took place between 4 and 15 May at the Headquarters of the United Nations in New York. Delegates of over 125 countries participated in the meeting including 30 ministers and vice-ministers.
