Summary
H.E. Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Chair of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) will convene political leaders and senior representatives of the global health community to showcase malaria as one of the “best buys” in global development and highlight the need for increased funding for malaria elimination. Participants will discuss malaria’s impact on the broader development agenda, highlighting malaria as a leading priority in a shifting development landscape. Speakers will illustrate best practices in achieving malaria control and showcase innovative financing approaches that will advance progress toward elimination targets and allow continued success. The event will also serve as a platform for the launch of WHO’s Global Technical Strategy for Malaria and RBM’s Action and Investment to defeat Malaria 2016-2030, which together provide a strategic framework toward malaria elimination, which is in line with the UN SDGs. Speakers include H.E. President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Margaret Chan, Director General of WHO, Mr. Ray Chambers, UNSG’s Special Envoy for Financing the Health MDGs and for Malaria, Dr. Fatoumata Nafo-Traore, Executive Director of Roll Back Malaria Partnership, Dr. Mark Dybul, Executive Director of the Global Fund and others.
