Summary
A regional programme on disaster risk reduction, entitled Building Disaster Resilience to Natural Hazards in Sub-Saharan African Regions, Countries and Communities, will be officially launched at the side event. The programme, with a duration of five years and funding envelope of EUR 80 million, will be implemented to provide an analytical basis for and accelerate the effective implementation of an African comprehensive disaster risk reduction and risk management framework. The programme seeks to build resilience at all levels, hence sustaining development gains – a key pillar of the 3rd International Conference on Financing for Development.
The European Union and African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States, together with the implementing partners (African Union Commission, UNISDR, the World Bank Group/GFDRR and the African Development Bank/ClimDev) will share the details of the programme and its role in strengthening disaster resilience in Africa.
