Description
UNDP and AbzeSolar S.A. have joint forces to scale up the use of sustainable energy solutions in the sub-Saharan region for poverty eradication.
Via the Multifunction Platform (MFP), a concept and a structure developed and deployed by UNDP, and the âInitiative MAMA-LIGHT for Sustainable Energyâ, a program initiated by H.R.H. Princess Abze Djigma, Women, Youth and the Informal Sector will be facilitated and empowered in organizing, implementing, maintaining and using sustainable solar energy and other renewable energy solutions to facilitate the growth of a sustainable local informal and private sector.
Under the umbrella of UNDP and the âInitiative MAMA-LIGHT for Sustainable Energyâ partnership, UNDP will host the Global Hub for the Informal Sector.
Partyâs commit:
– To assure access to high quality and affordable solar and other renewable energy products for all MFPâs
– To secure local expertise to advice, install and maintain energy solutions
– To together act as an example and catalyst to grow local economies
With the objective
– To create a sustainable local living environment
– To create jobs in beneficiary communities, notably for women and youth
– To empower the local informal and private sector
– To create a sustainable local living environment
– To transform (or to bring) the informal economy step by step to the formal sector
While working together with local and traditional authorities and respecting there experience, culture and traditions and building from there.

Targets
Today there are already 3500 MFPâs
Multiple year goals:
Train at least 10 people in each MFP into sustainable energy solutions
Make sure all MFPâs have the capability to sell, deliver, maintain and implement sustainable energy solutions
Make sure 80% of all families and informal sector within 30 minutes walking of each MFP have access to solar light
Make sure 50% of all families and informal sector within 30 minutes walking of each MFP have access to solar energy systems
Make accessible warm water systems for at least 50% of all families and informal sector within 30 minutes walking of each MFP
Demonstrate visible and significant growth of the local informal and private sector within 30 minutes walking of each MFP
Demonstrate first decrease of poverty of 50% of all families and informal sector within 30 minutes walking of each MFP
Implement specific solar energy standards for sub-Saharan Africa with and in all countries MFPâs are located (the QualitySun standards).

We will use existing indicators where possible and report on the achievements within the framework of the collaboration.
