The Platform for Collaboration on Tax (PCT), a joint initiative of the International Monetary Fund, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, United Nations, and the World Bank Group, will hold its at UN Headquarters in New York. The conference, which was welcomed in the outcome document of the 2017 ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development follow-up, will have a two-fold objective: (1) to take forward the global dialogue on the role of tax in achieving the SDGs; and (2) to seek country insights on relevant challenges and opportunities in using tax systems to support sustainable development.
The discussions will be structured around five thematic areas, namely: (1) domestic resource mobilization and the State; (2) the role of tax in supporting sustainable economic growth, investment and trade; (3) the social dimensions of tax (poverty, inequality and human development); (4) tax capacity development; and (5) international tax cooperation.
Participants will include senior tax policy makers and administrators from both developed and developing countries, as well as representatives of regional tax organizations, academia, the private sector and civil society. Attendance at this conference is by invitation only.
