Background
The was launched in September 2021 by the UN Secretary-General aiming to bring together Member States, international financial institutions, social partners, civil society, and the private sector to help countries create millions of decent jobs, primarily in the green, digital and care economies, and to extend social protection coverage to billions of people who are currently excluded.
The Global Accelerator offers sustainable solutions to tackle multiple crises, creating a virtuous cycle of sustainable development in which combined investments in social protection and decent jobs creation generate high economic and social returns and facilitate the transition to a resilient, sustainable, and inclusive economy. It plays a vital role in expediting the impact and driving transformative progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Global Accelerator will be among the High Impact Initiatives Session presented on SDG Acceleration Day. The session provides an opportunity to hear from government representatives from Pathfinder countries who will present their initial roadmaps for implementing the Global Accelerator.
It will also shine a spotlight on collaborative synergies through partnerships involving representatives from IFIs, development actors, and employers’ and workers’ organizations. This session also aims to forge policy coherence and offer a platform for partners and stakeholders to elaborate on their contributions to the Global Accelerator, aligned with their respective mandates.
