Supporting emergency activities related to peace and security
Synopsis
Objectives
This funding aims to provide immediate assistance to urgent requirements on matters related to peace and security globally.
Components
Main activities entail urgent travel needs of the Secretary-General to assist the peace process around the world, and the deployment of Special Envoys or Special Representatives on behalf of the Secretary-General to deal with prevalent issues related to peace and security, including peace negotiations, conflict anticipation, prevention, mediation, management, resolution, etc.
Main achievements
The project supported the Secretary-General’s (SG) efforts in the peace process in Colombia and Iraq and sponsored the SG to attend the following events, namely, the Munich Security Conference, visit to China and the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2018, Arab League Summit, visit to Cuba, meeting of the High-Level Advisory Board on Mediation, Oslo Forum, visit to Russia and the second annual United Nations-African Union conference.
Impact
This funding has provided immediate assistance to urgent requirements on matters related to peace and security globally, for unforeseen urgent and unexpected activities related to peace and security, and conflict prevention, while funding for such activities is not available from other sources.
