Synopsis
Objectives
This funding aims to provide immediate assistance to urgent requirements on matters related to peace and security globally.
Components
Main Activities entail urgent travel needs of the Secretary-General to assist the peace process around the world, the deployment of Special Envoys or Special Representatives on behalf of the Secretary-General to deal with prevalent issues related to peace and security, including peace negotiations, conflict anticipation, prevention, mediation, management, resolution, etc.
Main achievements
The project supported the following Emerging 国产AV and Security Related Activities:
- Cyprus talks: 11-12 January, 30 June and 6-10 July
- Visit to Turkey, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Qatar, and Egypt: 09-18 February 2017
- Visit to Iraq: 30-31 March 2017
- Visit to Afghanistan: 14 June 2017
- Deployment of Mr. Obasanjo to Liberia: 28-30 December 2017. The Secretary-General deployed former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, in his capacity as a member of the Secretary-General’s High-Level Advisory Board on Mediation, to Liberia from 28 to 30 December
Impact
This funding provided immediate assistance to urgent requirements on matters related to peace and security globally, for unforeseen urgent and unexpected activities related to peace and security and conflict prevention while funding for such activities is not available from other sources.
