Washington, DC, 4 March 2023 - Carlos Ruiz Massieu, Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Colombia and Head of the , was in Washington, DC, yesterday, to discuss the current situation in Colombia with key interlocutors.

At the White House, he met with Juan S. Gonzalez, Special Assistant to the President of the United States and National Security Council Senior Director for the Western Hemisphere. They discussed the importance of advancing the consolidation of peace in Colombia.

The SRSG also visited the State Department, where he met with Ambassador Michele J. Sison, Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs, and Mark A. Wells, Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. They discussed the ongoing efforts in Colombia to consolidate a stable and lasting peace.

The United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia works to verify the reintegration of former members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia–People's Army (FARC-EP) into political, economic and social life, and security guarantees for former FARC-EP members and their families and communities.
