Energy Compacts: Championing Gender Equality for a Just and Inclusive Energy Transition
18 September 2023
Participants in this multi-stakeholder virtual event looked at what was being achieved under the Gender and Energy Compact, which currently has 84 signatories, including ten Governments, and how the membership and impact could be expanded. Lack of clean cooking was seen as an area with serious impacts on women and strong potential for women to be involved in solutions. Also discussed were training in gender and energy; how to communicate to the gender community that the energy sector can deliver jobs and benefits for women; the need for girls to get STEM training in order to quality for positions in the energy sector; and the need for gender disaggregated data. One closing question for reflection was: What would it look like if women led the energy transition to 2030? The event was co-organized by Norway, Energia, UNIDO and SEforALL, and hosted by UN-Energy.
