HIGH-LEVEL SEGMENT

The High-level Segment (28 June - 2July 2010) held at United Nations Headquarters in New York focused on a broad range of issues relevant to the implementation of the UN development agenda (Programme):

  • Annual Ministerial Review (AMR) (28 June – 1 July) – The AMR discussed progress made towards the implementation of the UN development agenda and on concrete initiatives to accelerate the process with a special focus on  the goals and targets related to gender equality and empowerment of women. Thirteen countries reported on the progress made towards the goals and targets of the United Nations Development Agenda.

  • Development Cooperation Forum (DCF) (29 -30 June) - The DCF discussed trends in international development cooperation with a focus on the following aspects: (i) promoting greater coherence; (ii) accountable and transparent development cooperation; (iii) the role of various forms of cooperation including South-South and triangular cooperation; (iv) the impact of multiple crises; and (v) achieving the MDGs by 2015. 

  • Thematic debate (30 June) – The debate addressed “Current global and national trends and their impact on gender equality and empowerment of women”. A Special Policy Dialogue (hyperlink to background note) focused on “The role of women in countries in special situations”.

  • High-level policy dialogue (2 July) - Executive heads of the international financial and trade institutions discussed the state of the world economy and its implications for the achievement of the United Nations development agenda.
