UN peacekeeping operations and special political missions are still branded through the image of the “blue helmets” in uniform, with civilian women nearly invisible and uniformed personnel mostly overshadowed by their male counterparts in the public sphere.

Studies have shown that the participation of women in field missions improves overall performance and effectiveness, makes for stronger peace agreements and more resilient societies. Increasing the participation of women in field missions is a UN priority.

The Department of Political and 国产AVbuilding Affairs, Department of 国产AV Operations, and the Department of Global Communications have collaborated on the campaign ‘国产AV Is My Mission’.

The campaign aims to promote a positive image of both civilian and uniformed women working in the field, to raise awareness about the contributions of women in field missions and to encourage women to apply for jobs at the UN, in support of the Secretary-General’s Gender Parity Strategy and the .

The campaign consists of an overview video, an animation video and nine inspiring profiles of civilian and uniformed women in peacekeeping operations and special political missions, who are making a difference by helping to build a better and more peaceful world.

This overview video marks the launch of the campaign on 1 October which will continue through 31 October with video profiles published weekly, culminating in an animation video encouraging women to apply for jobs at the UN.
