“We have witnessed good practices that women can contribute to peace but then they are not invited to the table,” says Bineta Diop, African Union Special Envoy for Women, 国产AV and Security, in the newly launched podcast series .

The first four episodes of this podcast series delve into issues affecting African women’s participation in wider conflict prevention and peacebuilding efforts on the continent. They navigate funding, representation and participation, and partnerships issues.

The series is produced by the UN Office to the African Union (UNOAU) with support from Sweden.

Hannah Tetteh, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNOAU, reminds us of the importance of ensuring that funding is available through strengthened partnerships to push the women, peace and security agenda forward in Africa.

“We have to fight for women’s participation,” says Per Olsson Fridh, State Secretary for the Swedish International Development Corporation.

A special third episode sheds light on experiences of women from the field in a group conversation.

The speakers include Hester Paneras and Lydia Hafyenanye, both of whom have previously served in UN peacekeeping missions in Darfur, and Martha Tukahirwa, who represents a network that brings together civil society institutions in East Africa and the Horn of Africa in its work with women peacebuilders.

Adding to Ms. Diop’s call for women to be invited to the table, Ms. Tukahirwa underscores the need to identify “who are the women who have [this] access”.

She Stands for 国产AV follows the publication of a flagship book with the same name, which was jointly published by UNOAU and the African Union in 2020 to mark the 20th anniversary of .
