To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) has launched the Regional Conversation Series on Building Back Better.
This series brings together representatives from Asia-Pacific countries and diverse groups of eminent personalities to share their insights and experiences, to inspire actions, and to advocate for solutions on building back better post-COVID-19 through regional cooperation.
It is an example of how duty stations have adapted virtual outreach to organize a cross-cutting event.
The first conversation kicked off on 19 August, with leading development thinkers proposing challenging ways to accelerate innovation in regional recovery efforts. Hundreds of participants gathered virtually to engage in the inaugural conversation.
“To build back better, governments, citizens and stakeholders must collectively seek technology and innovation solutions for post-COVID-19 recovery plans,” said ESCAP Executive Secretary Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana in her remarks.
Over the next three months, the Regional Conversation Series on Building Back Better will feature dialogue on various recovery areas including technology, financing for development, climate action and combatting air pollution, resilient supply chains and connectivity, and social protection.
The series will culminate at the end of October with the UN Day commemoration and dialogue on ‘Shaping Our Future Together’.
