COP28 signals beginning of the end of the fossil fuel era

 

In a demonstration of global cooperation, negotiators from nearly 200 countries for the first time recognized the need to transition away from fossil fuels. “Whilst we didn’t turn the page on the fossil fuel era in Dubai, this outcome is the beginning of the end,” said UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell in his . UN chief António Guterres emphasized that the era of fossil fuels must end with justice and equity. “Developing countries must be supported every step of the way,” he said in his statement on the closing of COP28.

COP 28 concluded with a of the world’s efforts to address climate change under the Paris Agreement.
