“Leaders must lead. But all of us can do our part,” UN Secretary-General António Guterres said in his previous statement on a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
The same found that demand-side strategies, such as making it easier for people to use cleaner forms of transport or eat more plant-based foods, could cut global greenhouse gas emissions by 40-70% by 2050. It also notes that globally the wealthiest 10% households contribute about 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions while the bottom 50% contribute less than 15%.
The campaign encourages individual behavior change – especially in advanced economies – to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon world. It also urges people everywhere to and demand action from governments and businesses.
