The UNOCT Fusion Cells Programme Holds Virtual Study Visits
The United Nations Office of Counter Terrorism (UNOCT) Fusion Cells programme provides specialist technical assistance and expertise to help beneficiary countries develop legislative and institutional frameworks that support robust, relevant, and fit-for-purpose national level interagency coordination mechanisms or ‘Fusion Cells/Centre’s’, to address the threat of terrorism.
As part of the training, UNOCT has developed Study Visits focused on peer-to-peer information sharing between beneficiary countries of the programme and countries with recognized expertise on establishing and operating a Fusion Cell/Centre.
Due to the pandemic, these visits will be held online. The first series of Virtual Study Visits will take place through a series of interactive webinars, between 12 and 26 February 2021. Experts from beneficiary countries including Ghana, Botswana, Uganda, Togo, and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) will pay virtual visits to experts from Europol, Norway, the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights, the Russian Federation, Spain, Colombia, and Belgium.
Member States’ subject matter experts will share their experiences and lessons learned with beneficiary countries to provide a greater understanding of advanced procedures and mechanisms in matters of legal and policy frameworks, modalities of cooperation, information sharing, as well as the needs-centered approach for customers and society.
These Virtual Study Visits will allow the programme’s beneficiary countries to acquire a deeper insight into existing frameworks and operational mechanisms, as well as build stronger capacity in addressing the existing gaps in legislative and institutional frameworks at the national level and to engage in peer-to-peer discussions.
