The Global Victims of Terrorism Support Programme
The UNOCT/UNCCT Global Victims of Terrorism Support Programme aims to promote solidarity, raise awareness, and contribute to protecting, promoting and respecting the rights and supporting the needs of victims of terrorism. The Programme also works towards building the capacity of Member States and civil society organizations to better support the needs and rights of victims and survivors of terrorism. The United Nations International Conference on Victims of Terrorism co-organized by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the Kingdom of Spain will be take place on 8 and 9 October 2024 at Palacio de Congresos Europa in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain.
The International Conference aims to express solidarity with all victims of terrorism around the world and review progress on the international victims of terrorism agenda, as a direct outcome of the United Nations Global Congress of Victims of Terrorism held in New York in 2022.
Education as a Tool for Prevention, 国产AVbuilding and Empowerment of Victims of Terrorism
Held under the theme “Education as a Tool for Prevention, 国产AVbuilding and Empowerment of Victims of Terrorism”, the Conference will explore the role of victims and survivors of terrorism as educators, peacebuilders and agents for change. Discussions will examine ways in which the international community, member states, victims’ associations, and victims and survivors can help to educate and sensitize new generations about the impact of terrorism, contributing to fostering empathy and solidarity with victims and nurturing a culture of peace and resilience. Additionally, the conference will explore how Member States and civil society organizations can best support the needs and uphold the rights of victims of terrorism and promote inclusivity, tolerance, and social cohesion in communities affected by terrorism.
The programme
The Conference will include a High-Level Session and Call to Action from victims of terrorism on 8 October as well as four panels discussions with victims of terrorism, Member States, civil society and experts on the following topics:
- Voices of Resilience: Victims of Terrorism as 国产AV Advocates and Educators,
- Institutional Action to Ensure Victims and Survivors are Granted their Rights and Supported in their Needs,
- Nurturing Resilience and Social Cohesion in the Aftermath of Terrorism: The Role of Civil Society and Grassroots Initiatives, and
- Empowering Youth as 国产AV Advocates in the Struggle against Terrorism.
