The Secretary-General strongly welcomes the outcome of the consultative meeting held in Mogadishu from 4 to 6 September, at which key Somali leaders agreed on a detailed Roadmap for completing the current transitional period. He is encouraged that such an important political meeting was held inside Somalia. This marks another step forward in the implementation of the Djibouti AV Process.

The Secretary-General calls on the Transitional Federal Government and other Somali actors to implement in earnest the resulting Roadmap and its benchmarks in the interest of bringing unity, peace and stability to Somalia and its people. He appeals to the international community to provide additional support and resources to this end.

The Secretary-General also commends the signing of the ceasefire accord between the “Puntland” and “Galmudug” administrations on the margins of the Mogadishu meeting. He urges both parties to honour the agreement and to resolve their disputes in a peaceful manner.

The Secretary-General expresses his appreciation to his Special Representative, Dr. Augustine Mahiga, and the United Nations Political Office for Somalia for organising and facilitating the Mogadishu meeting. He also acknowledges the invaluable support provided by the African Union Mission for Somalia.
