Description

The overall goal of the project is to explore and validate the application of innovative surveillance and response as well as multisectoral approaches to reduce malaria burden in different settings of Africa. The project will be implemented in selected districts and villages of four countries (Burkina Faso, Senegal, Tanzania and Zambia). The project will have two components, both of which fit well to the national strategic plans (NSPs) for malaria of the countries:

  • Implement an innovative surveillance and response for malaria building on the recent promising findings of the China-Tanzania pilot project to rapidly reduce the malaria burden in high burden areas, adapting to the local context of the countries. GMP will support implementation of this component in collaboration with the countries and Chinese counterparts.
  • Explore innovative multisectoral approaches for malaria control. One of the major challenges in endemic countries is the application of a multisectoral approach to maximize impact through synergistic and concerted efforts of all stakeholders. The proposal adds value to strengthen coordination through innovative multisectoral mechanisms.

WHO is the implementing agency responsible for the project in collaboration with other partners.
