Codice del Fuego, or Codex of Fire, is a painting by Ecuadorian artist Nelson Roman (1945 – ). The painting consists of four panels which depict anthropomorphic and zoomorphic elements (human-like and animal-like shapes), mystical magic symbolism of the ancient South American and Western cultures. 

The colors, shapes and feather elements create a dramatic space in which the artist conveys a message of defense of human rights, the environment and ancient cultures. 

This piece is a part of the series “Codexes” created on the 500th anniversary of the landing of western peoples in the Americas. It is a polyptych composed by four panels of mixed media and techniques on canvas. 

The gift was presented by the Permanent Representative of Ecuador, Mr. Mario Aleman, to the United Nations, and Chef de Cabinet Mr. Iqbal Riza accepted it on behalf the United Nations.
