Subsequently, the <a href="http://www.un.org/en/development/desa/millennium-development-goals.html">Millennium Development Goals</a> and the <a href="https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/post2015/transformingourworld">2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development</a> integrated many goals and objectives of the ICPD Programme of Action.</p> <p>While important progress has been made, considerable gaps still exist in the implementation of different areas of the Programme of Action. In 2010, the General Assembly decided to extend the Programme of Action beyond 2014 with a view to fully meeting its goals and objectives (<a href="http://www.un.org/en/ga/search/view_doc.asp?symbol=A/RES/65/234%20">A/RES/65/234</a>). In 2014, the Secretary-General reported that progress in implementing the goals and objectives of the Programme of Action had been unequal and fragmented and that new challenges, realities and opportunities had emerged since its adoption (<a href="http://www.un.org/en/ga/search/view_doc.asp?symbol=E/CN.9/2014/4%20">E/CN.9/2014/4</a>). The General Assembly held a special <a href="http://www.un.org/en/development/desa/population/events/other/4/en/special_session.html#overview">session</a> in September 2014 to assess the status of implementation of the Programme of Action and to renew political support for actions required for the full achievement of its goals and objectives.</p> <p>The Commission on Population and Development (CPD), at its fifty-second session in 2019, will carry out a review and appraisal of the ICPD Programme of Action and its contribution to the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda. The timing of this appraisal, 25 years after “Cairo”, is consistent with the five-year cycle of review of the status of implementation of the ICPD Programme of Action carried out by the CPD in 2004, 2009 and 2014, respectively. In preparation for the fifty-second session of the CPD, the Population Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs will convene an expert group meeting. The meeting will examine progress and gaps in implementing the goals and objectives set out in the ICPD Programme of Action and explore the potential implications of future de</p> <p>Demographic trends for the full implementation of the Programme, and discuss the contribution of the ICPD Programme of Action to the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda. The meeting will also examine progress in measuring sustainable development indicators related to population.</p> <hr /> <h3>Documents</h3> <ul> <li><a href="/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/unpd-egm_201811_egm_objectives.pdf">Objectives</a></li> <li><a href="/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/unpd-egm_201811_egm_agenda.pdf">Agenda</a></li> <li><a href="/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/unpd-egm_201811_egm_organizationofwork.pdf">Organization of work </a></li> <li>Background documents*</li> <li>Notes for panelists and moderators [<a href="/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/guidance_note_panels_session_i_through_v_reportofthemeeting.pdf">Panels I-V]</a> [<a href="/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/unpd-egm_201811_guidance_note_panel_vi.pdf">Panel VI]</a></li> <li><a href="/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/unpd_egm_201811_list_of_participants.pdf">List of participants</a></li> <li><a href="/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/unpd-egm_201811_desa_voice_nov2018.pdf">News and media</a></li> <li><a href="/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/unpd-egm_201811_reportofthemeeting.pdf">Report</a></li> </ul> </div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-relatted-links field-type-link-field field-label-inline clearfix"><div class="field-label">Related links:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="https://population.un.org/wpp/">World Population Prospects, The 2017 Revision Highlights</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="https://population.un.org/wup/">World Urbanization Prospects, The 2018 Revision</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-inline clearfix"><div class="field-label">tags:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/development/desa/pd/tags/2018">2018</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/development/desa/pd/tags/expert-group-meeting">Expert Group Meeting</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/development/desa/pd/tags/icpd">ICPD</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/development/desa/pd/tags/programme-action">Programme of Action</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-featured-categories field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Categories:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/development/desa/pd/categories/expert-group">Expert group</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/development/desa/pd/categories/sustainable-development-goals">Sustainable development goals</a></div></div></div> Thu, 10 Jan 2019 14:59:00 +0000 MSTOCKTO 588 at /development/desa/pd
