Enhancing Young Women's Participation in Political Parties in Ghana

The Gender Centre for Empowering Development (GenCED) Ghana is achieving notable progress in encouraging young women's involvement in political parties through its project "Enhancing Young Women’s Participation in Political Parties in Ghana."

This initiative, supported by a second grant from the United Nations Democracy Fund, builds on GenCED's growth from a start-up civil society organization to a trusted partner in Ghana, particularly with political parties.

GenCED's first project aimed to increase women's participation in local decision-making. However, it highlighted the necessity of engaging political parties to achieve tangible results. Consequently, Tthis current project focuses on working with both young women aspiring to enter politics and political party executives, ensuring that young women's political aspirations are supported in a sustainable and realistic manner.

Among the notable achievements of this project are the establishment of political wings in four major parties, the formulation of gender-sensitive party policies, and the organization of proactive workshops that encourage young female members to engage in politics. Additionally, mentorship programs have been designed to nurture young women's leadership skills, preparing them for active roles in the political arena.
