On 25 September 2014, the Republic of Cabo Verde, the Republic of The Gambia, the Republic of Guinea, the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, the Republic of Senegal and the Republic of Sierra Leone, jointly submitted to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, in accordance with Article 76, paragraph 8, of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 10 December 1982, information on the limits of the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles from the baselines from which the breadth of the territorial sea is measured in respect of areas in the Atlantic Ocean adjacent to the coast of West Africa.

It is noted that the Convention entered into force for the Republic of Cabo Verde, the Republic of The Gambia, the Republic of Guinea, the Republic of Guinea-Bissau and the Republic of Senegal on 16 November 1994, for the Republic of Sierra Leone on 11 January 1995 and for the Islamic Republic of Mauritania on 16 August 1996.

In accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the Commission (CLCS/40/Rev.1), a communication is being circulated to all Member States of the United Nations, as well as States Parties to the Convention, in order to make public the executive summary of the submission, including all charts and coordinates contained in that summary.

The consideration of the joint submission will be included in the provisional agenda of the thirty-seventh session of the Commission to be held in New York from 2 February to 20 March 2015.

Upon completion of the consideration of the submission, the Commission shall make recommendations pursuant to Article 76 of the Convention.
