CLCS/40 _ Rules of procedure 2 July 2004

The Commission adopted its modus operandi, which deals with the internal functioning of the Commission (CLCS/L.3), at the second session (September 1997). This is the second of three basic documents of the Commission, and it spells out both for the Commission itself, and for coastal States wishing to make a submission, how the Commission will proceed in handling the submission. It includes a flow diagram indicating how and by whom submissions are received and treated at each stage of consideration of the submission.

At its thirteenth session, the Commission finalized its work on the consolidation of the modus operandi and internal procedures documents of the Commission.  The combined document entitled "Modus operandi for the consideration of a submission made to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf" was included as annex III to the rules of procedure. The rules of procedure, with the annexed modus operandi, are being reissued as a new consolidated document (CLCS/40), thus incorporating what had originally been three separate documents into a single document.
